Kanpai Izakaya brings the classic Japanese gastropub experience to life, pairing rich flavors with fresh ingredients in a lively and colorful setting. The menu centers on shared small plates, featuring everything from fresh sushi rolls and savory skewers to playful cocktails. If there is one item you absolute must try, it is their super crispy chicken karaage, which is a standout crowd favorite. They also feature a dedicated tatami room with traditional low seating, perfect for groups looking for a more authentic and relaxed dining atmosphere. It is an ideal spot for a social night out with friends, great energy, and plenty of drinks to go around.

Hotpot Oslo is Norway’s first dedicated hotpot restaurant, serving authentic Chinese hotpot straight from Szechuan. The concept is deeply social and interactive, centered around a steaming pot placed right in the middle of the table. You can choose up to two different broth bases in one pot before loading up the table with thinly sliced beef, lamb, seafood, tofu, fresh vegetables, and noodles to cook directly at the table and pair with dipping sauces. With its welcoming ambiance decorated with red lanterns, it is an ideal spot for a casual dinner with friends or a date night with a twist. You can find all ingredients and prices online, making it easy to plan ahead and do a little research beforehand if you have never experienced hotpot before.

Hanami is located right on the waterfront at Tjuvholmen and offers a properly boujee experience that I think is completely worth the visit. The service sets the tone right away, just having them take your coat at the door and hang it up for you sets the standard for the rest of the evening. The menu combines a Japanese robata grill, izakaya, and sushi, featuring everything from fresh sashimi and robata-grilled skewers to wagyu beef, glazed black cod, and dim sum. You can order à la carte or choose set tasting menus ranging from around 800 to 1300 NOK per person. With fjord views, solid cocktails, and outdoor seating in the summer, it is a spot I truly recommend when you want to make a night of it.
