The Itinerary
48 hours · a weekend
A weekend is enough time to stop treating Oslo like a checklist. Day one pairs Grünerløkka coffee with a jewellery workshop at Støp and a long dinner. Day two stays west for Vigeland's preserved studio, a neighbourhood lunch, contemporary art, and a film in Sommerro's small screening room.
09:00
Begin the trip at the espresso bar that put Oslo on the world coffee map. A former world barista champion roasts on site and serves a short menu with total conviction. Tiny, and worth the pilgrimage.

~7 min walk · 550 m
10:30
Walk down the Akerselva to the city's original food hall, in a 1908 iron foundry with thirty-odd producers and counters. Graze early, then follow the river back up through the old industrial belt.
The riverside path from Mathallen up to Grünerløkka is a 15-minute walk past waterfalls.

~29 min walk · 2.3 km
14:00
Tram into the centre for the Nordics' biggest art museum, home to the national collection, Munch's The Scream, and the top-floor Light Hall. Give it two hours.

~23 min walk · 1.8 km
17:30
Spend the late afternoon learning the process and making a piece that is actually yours. The Osterhaus' gate workshop is close enough to walk to dinner afterwards.
Reserve a workshop ahead; sessions determine the exact timing.
~16 min walk · 1.3 km
20:00
Small plates built for sharing and a loose, loud room, the kind of dinner that runs long. A good first-night table that doesn't need a month's notice.

~12 min walk · 950 m
22:30
Cap the night at the distillery-bar behind the unmarked Storgata door, one of the world's most awarded cocktail rooms. Order whatever the bartender's excited about.
09:30
St. Hanshaugen's corner espresso bar since the '90s, one of the rooms where Oslo's coffee culture was actually invented, and still pouring some of its best. Grab a coffee for the walk up the hill.
~38 min walk · 3.0 km
10:30
Go inside the sculptor's preserved studio rather than stopping at the famous statues across the road. The plaster originals, tools, and working models make the outdoor park read differently afterwards.

~40 min walk · 3.2 km
13:00
Back toward St. Hanshaugen for lunch at this all-day neighbourhood kitchen. The hverdagsmat menu and communal tables make it an easy midday anchor.

~40 min walk · 3.1 km
15:00
Contemporary art under Renzo Piano's sail-like roof at the tip of Tjuvholmen, with a sculpture park and a little city beach right outside. Culture and a sea view in one stop.

~16 min walk · 1.3 km
17:00
Trade the standard late-afternoon circuit for a film in Sommerro's small Art Deco screening room. The programme changes, so pick the showing first and let it set the pace of the evening.
Check the current programme and book the screening before dinner.
~55 min walk · 4.4 km
20:00
Natural wine and a kitchen that outcooks most restaurants, up in Tøyen. The proof that Oslo's best dinners aren't always the most formal ones.
~29 min walk · 2.3 km
22:30
Finish with the blackboard: hundreds of wines by the glass, candlelight, and no fixed menu. Ask for one pour you would not have chosen yourself.
